Responsive Web Design
In today's internet more and more people are using mobile devices to browse. Unfortunately, websites that are designed for a desktop often don't work well, or aren't easy to use, on a touch screen based device. To account for this, many firms have turned to creating mobile versions of their website. Unfortunately creating a mobile version of a website can be costly to create and maintain. It essentially doubles the cost of maintenance, updates and creation. Mainly because it is essentially two different websites.
This also creates other issues with search engines. When search engines try to examine a website, they do so by crawling around. Often, when there is a mobile version of a webpage present, a search engine gets confused. It can't tell which page is the real page or what the content of the webpage is supposed to be.
As a result, a new method of creating websites has been developed.
Responsive webpages are dynamic. They adapt to a user's screen size. This means that the same webpage can be made to look different on a computer versus a smartphone. It is a purely graphical affect, so it won't affect your website's search engine ranking.
That means that visitors to your website can fully experience your site without causing all that headache for search engines and developers. That's why we are currently in the process of converting our website into a responsive site!
